Camping Equipment Has Come A Long Way
Friday, August 31, 2007, 07:24 PM - Equipment
Camping Equipment Has Come A Long Way. A camping article.Camping equipment has come a long way since the early days of freezing in a damp tent. Today's outdoor stores have the latest in camping gear that will have even the amateur camper setting up a tent in no time.

Some of today's tents can be put up in less than 15 minutes. They are equipped with enough room to shelter even a tall person. You can even find tents that offer portable living space that contain individual rooms for getting some rest. There has also been some great advancements in sleeping bags. Today's sleeping bag are manufactured with new materials that can distribute a large amount of heat. They are feather-light bags that can be transported anywhere with ease. The bags are also labeled with well-documented labels that display various temperature gradings in which the bag can be used for.

If you are looking for the ultimate in comfort while camping then you need not worry. You can find packable sleeping mattresses and pads that will provide you with relaxation and a great nights rest. If you still would rather sleep in a bed, then you can find portable cots that complete with mattresses that can easily fit into your car or SUV. If you hate the idea of roughing it in the wilderness, then you will love the newly developed small port-a-potties that can even flush similar to a normal toilet. No need to walk a distance to share a public bathroom facility.

Camping gear has gone through significant advancement over the last 20 years. Manufacturers have been quick on putting out excellent advancements to make campers lives easier. Camping equipment suppliers have made sure that many accessories are safety approved to ensure that accidents never happen. Waterproof lanterns have replaced oil lamps, and tents are now coated with flame-retardant products. The style and design of many accessories has also greatly improved. You can find many bedding and blankets in a wide variety of colors. Also eating utensils and dishes rival that of many homes.

Just like with in today's market, you can find camping equipment in varying degrees of quality and prices from very expensive to relatively cheap. If you are new to camping, you will find that even lower end camping gear will be just fine for those week or two getaways. You will more than likely get many years out of them before they start to wear on you.

When you purchase camping gear, you are not only buying accessories to keep you comfortable in the wilderness, but are also investing in family memories for years that you will have for the rest of your life.

There is just something so incredibly comforting about spending time in these scenic playgrounds. Once you've visited one of the premiere New York state park campgrounds, chances are you'll be hooked for life, given the variety of amenities they offer.

Undoubtedly, one of the most popular of the New York state park campgrounds is Allegany State Park. In fact, this campground was named in 2007 as a Top "Amazing Spot" in the nation. RV vs Tent Camping - Which is Right for You?
Tuesday, August 14, 2007, 08:32 PM - General
RV vs Tent Camping - Which is Right for You? A camping article. Many people think of camping as a getaway from the daily grind of life and enjoying what some other region has to offer. Choosing between the fast convenience of tents that have the disadvantage of roughing it a bit and the more expensive yet more comfortable rental of an RV that can leave you limited to your vacation destinations can be a difficult one. Here's a quick look at the pros and cons of each to help you make your choice on camping accommodations.

Cost is a factor whether you choose camping equipment or renting an RV. Good, solid tents and warm sleeping bags plus all the other accessories you'll need for your vacation aren't that cheap, but compared to the cost of an RV rental, you're still coming out ahead. If you're planning to go camping on a regular basis, the long-term potential involved in purchasing equipment is worth the expense, and you'll be able to enjoy your equipment for many years. Renting an RV will most likely be a one-time thing, but if it's not, you'll have to factor the expense into your yearly holiday budget. However, just as with camping equipment, you can go one step further and outright buy an RV for vacationing to have for many trips to come. Again, the price difference is incomparable to the few hundreds tents will cost you, but creatures of comfort will never be one hundred percent happy in more rustic accommodations, so if you're the kind of person that prefers convenience and luxury, aim for an RV.

With an RV rental, you'll have good solid shelter, leg- and head-room, and you'll have the comfort of tables, benches and proper sleeping accommodations. There's very little set up involved with an RV, as you're basically just parking the vehicle and hooking it up to the camping installation's amenities. The added advantage of having the conveniences of a shower, a bathroom and hot water at your disposal is often appreciated. However, RV rentals can be pricey and you'll need to consider how you're going to haul the equipment around. You may end up having the extra cost of a truck rental added on to your budget, and you'll have twice as many worries about damages to equipment that you don't own. Also, you can't just set up an RV wherever you please and will have to find a campground with free space to accommodate your equipment.

Finding the type of accommodation that suits you best will mean that you'll enjoy your camping trip far more than if you'd tried to box your personality into a bad fit. Outdoorsmen shun creature comforts, and those who like easy convenience find tents frustrating and unpleasant, so it's a wise idea to find out what type of personality you are and choose the accommodations that will suit you best.

Motor Home Camping In Utah
Tuesday, August 7, 2007, 11:36 PM - Utah
Arches National Park. Motor Home Camping In Utah. A camping article.Utah is a great place for camping. One of the reasons it attracted Mormon settlers was because it was full of stunning natural beauty, like nothing anyone had ever seen before.

The good news for all you campers and hikers is that all that scenery has been preserved by the park service for us to enjoy today. If you look at a map of Utah, you'll see that almost the entire south-central portion is national park. You could easily spend several weeks in Utah and always find new things to see.

Bryce Canyon

Utah has some of the greatest camping in the country, and Bryce Canyon is a choice spot. Bryce is about 250 miles south of Salt Lake City and about 7,000 feet up in the air. At Bryce, you'll find hiking trails that lead right into the canyon, and a nice, high desert climate.

It may not be New York City, but Bryce Canyon has its own Wall Street. It's a little different, though. It's one of the many canyon trails that winds around into the canyon, where you are surrounded by towering rock formations that cast shadows every which way. Bryce Canyon is a desert hiker's dream.

Because it's so high up, Bryce gets its fair share of weather extremes. In the summer it is hot, and in winter it is freezing cold. Many find that late spring or early fall are good times to go. At those times of year, you can have some warmth and sunshine for your day hikes and the cool desert night to sleep in.

Bryce Canyon has 2 campgrounds, but there are also places where you can pitch your camp out in the wilderness. Both campgrounds are RV accessible.

Zion

Zion is an amazing place because it's located in the spot where three distinct landscapes meet. It's located at the crossroads between the Mojave Desert, the Colorado Plateau and the Great Basin. This is why Zion offers sights you won't see anywhere else.

Hiking and mountain biking are the best way to see Zion. For those of you who are not into long all-day hikes, there are lots of trails that aren't too long. There are three campgrounds with varying levels of accommodation with spots for your RV and motor home. You can keep it as rugged or as comfortable as you want.

If you really want to see the best of what Zion has to offer, you have to hit the backcountry. This may mean strapping everything to your back and stretching those legs a little bit, but it will be well worth it.

At Zion, you'll see stark cliffs rising out of the canyon floor, rushing streams cutting through walls of rock, wind and water-sculpted rock formations that look like something from Mars, strikingly beautiful wildflowers growing out of bare earth... and maybe even a mountain lion! Don't worry, they're shy. If you see one, it will be for a split second before he runs off to safety.

Arches

Arches National Park is named after its most striking feature - the arches. These arches are made of all natural sandstone. Over time, the wind has carved them out of this delicate rock. For geologists, it's a goldmine of ancient fossils. For hikers and other outdoors types, it's full of spectacular scenery.

In addition to the arches that make it famous, the park is full of barren desert beauty. Giant boulders stand balanced on top of each other, like they might be ready to fall at any moment. Unearthly rocky shapes stand out in a landscape of sand, shrub and brightly colored wildflowers. Arches is a photographer's paradise, with its rock structures that subtly change shape over the course of the day as the sun hits them at different angles.

There's only one campground at Arches, the ominously named Devils Garden Campground. If you plan to go, especially during summer, you should call to make a reservation. You can also make a reservation online. There are both tent camping spots as well as those that can accommodate larger vehicles, trailers and RVs, complete with hook-ups.

You can plan a whole camping vacation around Utah alone. Besides these popular national parks, there are more out-of-the way places to camp in Utah, where you can really get away from it all.

Which Recreation Camping Style Do You Prefer?
Thursday, August 2, 2007, 07:34 PM - General
Which Recreation Camping Style Do You Prefer? A camping article. At one point, the only recreation camping opportunity on offer was tents or the open air. A century ago, you would have been privileged to own a canvas tent. Camping, as a vocational pastime, truly took off approximately fifty years ago. At that time hundreds of trucks were equipped with a camper shell; however, the sleeping space was still rather cramped.

Nowadays, there are a variety of choices available to build a home away from home.
Tents still remain extremely well-liked, and they continue to advance in design development. Internal framed tents are simply to pull together - you don't need to do much more than simply snap them open). They are constructed from a durable nylon material and typically in the style of a dome, making them particularly strong. Alternatively, you have the external framed tents which still continue to be popular and have the benefit of being bigger, rectangular in shape (for optimum space) and extremely robust against wind.

A number of sport utility vehicles (SUV) are now so large that accommodating two people in the back with the rows of seats laid down is a clear option. They offer first rate protection against the neighbouring wild animals and with the benefit of a pump-up mattress, equally as comfy as a traditional tent.
Recreational vehicles (RV's) have been established for twenty years now, emerging from the 'truck and camper shell' design. RVs are now equipped with electricity, propane, running water, air conditioning, movable awnings, and more space than you could imagine. Some have sufficient space to allow use as a semi-permanent home.

The outlay can be as much, as well, with the leading models selling in excess of $200,000. But they are installed with every extravagance you could desire and have enough power to quite easily tow a vehicle behind.

Of course, in various areas - and at various time throughout the year - it remains possible to actually replicate the outdoor adventures of a century ago. You could lay out your sleeping bag or blanket on the bare floor and gaze up at the stars and picture what it could've been like.

Luckily, the sleeping gear that you are liable to utilize for any recreation camping has significantly improved from that age. Present day materials will offer both the interior and exterior with top grade comfort and endurance. Durable nylon shells, down fill and Primaloft insulation make sleeping gear cosy, waterproof, and warm.

If you truly aim to get a feel of what times were like a century ago, you could just opt for a simple blanket. However, you'll soon find out that this adventure that seems so amazing in the films has a great deal more realism than many campers would want.
